Next Year’s Organization Plan

For the 2012-13 school year, we will again have three classrooms on each team – it’s been a long time since we had the full complement, but our enrollments are back up to where they used to be. The Inter- mediate Unit – grades 3 and 4 — will have three multi-age classrooms taught by Heidi Hill, Prudence Krasofski, and Katie Sullivan. Heidi Hill move into the new classroom upstairs, so all three I-team classes will be in the same area.

But the Primary Unit and the Upper Unit
will experience unusual enrollment pat-
terns. In the Primary Unit, we expect 26
first graders, and 18 second graders. After
carefully considering the options, we’ve
decided that it would make most sense to
have Gina and Whitney each teach first
grade classrooms, and Beth to teach the
second graders. They will continue to do things as a team, but this line-up will help the teachers make the curriculum changes coming about as Vermont transi- tions to the “Common Core” national standards.

The Upper Unit welcomes Jane Spina as their new team- mate. With 30 fifth graders and 16 sixth graders, they too will have single grade homerooms; Jane and Eliza- beth will each have a fifth grade classroom; Heidi Ringer will have all the sixth graders. Students will con- tinue to move around in different configurations for dif- ferent subjects – the team will be developing specific plans once Jane comes on board. We abandoned the multi-age classrooms for this year because we simply could not find a good way of dividing up the sixth grade – with just 2-3 boys and 2-3 girls in each class.

Feel free to contact the teachers and/or Dr. L if you have any questions or comments.
